LHTDesign has had sustained involvement with a staged winery development set up to provide winemaking services to a large number of local growers.
LHTDesign designed the first stage of Vinpro’s large temperature-controlled bottled wine store that was commissioned in 2004, then worked on the subsequent stages of the three-stage facility.
The overall winery design development is based around former Ministry of Works buildings on the site that had already been converted for dry goods storage and bottling.
Throughout the ongoing project, LHTDesign worked with the client and contractor to manage the growth in a controlled, effective manner.
Vinpro Winery covers 5000sq m floor space that includes:
- Winery buildings that include a 50m x 30m clear span processing building with a cantilever lean-to over external crushers.
- Office facilities.
- Dry goods stores.
- Bottling lines.
- Two interior barrel halls.
- Office and courtyard.
- Amenities block with laboratory.
- Full site services – fire, sanitary, trade waste and stormwater.
- Extensions to the facilities to meet growth requirements.
LHTDesign provided full winery design and detailing of all building construction and drainage, as well as detailing of the trade waste system to a design prepared by others. The firm was also responsible for the administration of the building contract, with assistance from Faris Consulting of Alexandra.
The winery owner has achieved their original vision in a planned, cost effective, timely fashion.
The facility flows and works very well with spaces effectively utilised for optimum production.
They have in effect, got the right solution throughout the development process.
