“Ngongataha Foot and Cycle Bridge “
Rotorua District Council is currently developing cycle ways throughout the district. Stage 1 of the cycleway has been completed linking Rotorua CBD and Ngongataha. The Foot and Cycle Bridge detailed forms a critical link in the cycleway that is both functional and adds appeal to the hard landscaping. LHTDesign completed the entire structural design as a sub consultant to McIntosh Timber Laminates who undertook the project under a design build arrangement. The structural design was carried out in closes consultation with MTL to ensure the structure was easily constructed, cost efficient and satisfied the clients needs. MTL fabricated and supplied the Glulam timber and connection hardware to the main contractor who then erected on site. The main timber arches carry the load in an efficient and aesthetically pleasing manner. The bridge structure curves in two differing directions creating a structure that blend well into landscaped environment with soft visual impact. The bridge is already proving an asset to the community with man comments on it pleasing looks and is under frequent use.
All parties involved found the project ran smoothly and are pleased with final result.
