Lower Hutt City Council Learners' Pool, Naenae, Wellington

BRIEF
To supplement the existing indoor 50m pool with a large free-form learners' / toddlers’ pool facility complete with waterfalls and attractive water features in a new, light enclosure attached to the existing building.

SWIMMING POOL DESIGN PROJECT OUTLINE

  • A large free-form learners’ / toddlers’ pool complete with waterfalls and other water features.  All pools and surrounds fully tiled.
  • A new enclosure to house the pool with extensive glazing and a laminated timber structure to a barrel vault roof with a ridge skylight and clerestory lights.
  • Sand filters, hypochlorination, CO2 pH correction, and gas heating.
  • Upgrading and creation of new storage and office areas.

LHTDESIGN'S SCOPE OF WORKS
As principal consultants of this $970,000 swimming pool project, LHTDesign led the project team (including ASC Architects and John Loughnan Mechanical Engineer) and controlled and coordinated the development of the concept, documentation and administration of construction.

LHTDesign also had particular responsibility for civil and structural engineering, fire safety and water quality.

OUTCOME
The swimming pool  project was completed on time and fully met the design and functional requirements, and available funding of the client.

Hutt City Council was particularly impressed at LHTDesign ability to deliver such an attractive facility for such a modest budget.
