Freyberg Community Pool, Palmerston North

BRIEF
To design an attractive new indoor pool facility incorporating a six lane 25 metre pool, a learners’ pool with various water features and a toddlers’ pool housed in a energy-efficient and cost effective building containing administrative offices and modern changing amenities.

SWIMMING POOL DESIGN PROJECT OUTLINE

  • An indoor six lane, 25m deep end pool with access ramp.
  • A learners’ pool with a waterfall to a toddlers' pool.
  • All pools tiled.
  • A building incorporating administration and staff areas, general, disabled and family change rooms, bleacher seating and a children’s play area.
  • A laminated timber roof structure with acoustic ceilings.
  • DE filters and hypochlorination.
  • Gas heating, sailcloth ducting.

LHTDESIGN'S SCOPE OF WORKS
As principal consultants of this $1.8M project, LHTDesign led the project team (including ASC Architects and John Loughnan Mechanical Engineer) and controlled and co-ordinated the development of the concept, documentation and administration of construction.

LHTDesign also had particular responsibility for civil and structural engineering, fire safety and water quality.

OUTCOME
The Freyberg Community Pool, which was a joint venture between Freyberg College and the Palmerston North City Council, was completed on time and within budget.

The completed swimming pool facility fully met the design, functional, and financial requirements of the client.
