Develop a concept, carry out the safety design and certify a purpose-built fullbore rifle range for the 2011 Commonwealth Games at the Central Reserve Police Force Academy, Kadarpur, Gurgaon, Haryana.
- 20 target, 1000 yard (914m) range for fullbore rifles (centre-fire - typically .308 inch or 7.62mm calibre)
- No-danger area range designed to NRANZ Safety Rules developed and written by Tony Loughnan of LHTDesign after statistical analysis of NRANZ cone of fire. The range is built on 8Ha compared to the normal requirement of 150Ha for a 20 target 1000 yard range plus its Range Danger Area.
- Single firing point with electronic targets moved between distances from 300 to 1000 yards.
- Ricochets precluded by specific rules for firing practices plus the use of side baffle walls and cross-range baffle walls and a 13m high butt stop wall.
LHTDesign developed the concept, designed the physical size and placement of all bullet-stopping structures and inspected and certified the completed construction. The civil, structural and architectural design and detailing to realise this concept was carried out by the Central Public Works Department in Delhi.
This unique range is a world first in its concept and safety systems. It hosted the fullbore shooting for both the 2011 Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships and the 2011 Commonwealth Games and operated safely and efficiently.
