WestpacTrust Indoor Pool, Waipukurau

BRIEF
To design an attractive new indoor pool facility for the community of Waipukurau incorporating a 25m pool, a 12mlearners’ pool, and a toddlers’ pool housed in an energy-efficient and cost effective building also containing administrative offices and modern changing amenities.

SWIMMING POOL DESIGN PROJECT OUTLINE

  • An indoor six lane 25mpool (2.1m to 1.05m depth) with access ramp.
  • A 12m x 6m learners’ pool with a waterfall to a toddlers’ pool.
  • A building incorporating administration and staff areas, general and family change rooms, and a curved laminated timber roof structure.
  • Sand filter and gas chlorination.
  • Heat pump heat sink system with sailcloth ducting.
  • An acoustic ceiling.

LHTDESIGN’S SCOPE OF WORKS
As principal consultants of this $1.5M swimming pool project, LHTDesign led the project team (including John Loughnan Mechanical Engineer) and controlled and coordinated the development of the concept, documentation and administration of construction.

LHTDesign also had particular responsibility for building design, civil and structural engineering, fire safety and water quality.

Consideration was given in the planning for the ultimate addition of a gymnasium / sports hall facility (since completed).

OUTCOME
The completed facility fully met the design, functional, and financial requirements of the client, and is a valuable asset for the local community.

The project was completed in 1997 on time and within budget.
