To design a single court sports hall and fitness gymnasium to operate in conjunction with an existing indoor pool (another LHTDesign project) within a severely restricted budget.
- Sports hall set up for basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis and netball and other sports.
- Sprung timber floor.
- Bleacher seating for 180 plus space for temporary seating.
- Large viewing mezzanine floor.
- Sport specific lighting, manually controlled ventilation, radiant heaters, four large lockable store rooms with roller grilles.
- Fully serviced 260sq m weights gymnasium.
- Large men’s, women’s, and two accessible / family change rooms.
- Large kitchen / meeting room.
- Access from indoor pool with alternative direct access for large events.
- Separate fire cells heat detectors to stadium, alternative solution to pool.
- Multi-use area with training room, offices and massage room added to pool.
As principal consultants to this $1.2M sports facilities design project, LHTDesign obtained designs for lighting, electrical, heating and ventilation and carried out all other aspects of the design in-house. LHTDesign also carried out the contract administration. (LHTDesign had previously provided the same services to the Trust for the indoor pool).
The project was completed ahead of time in July 2003, well within the budget and with all the requirements of a modern sports and fitness centre.
Together with the indoor pool, the gym provides the local community with a welcomed and valued asset.
