To design functional and attractive new premises to house the press room and offices of Rarotonga’s daily newspaper.
Economy was a key factor and the challenge for LHTDesign was to meet the client’s high design expectations at a cost significantly less than currently accepted Cook Island costs.
- A total floor area of 410sq m.
- Dedicated area for commercial printing operation.
- Offices with good natural light and ventilation.
- Two retail tenancies on the street front.
LHTDesign undertook the conceptual design (including a two-story option), preliminary budgets, detailed design, and contract negotiations to achieve budget.
LHTDesign also supervised the construction of the building and provided contract administration to achieve the newspaper operation deadline.
The Cook Island News building was completed within budget at $310,000. LHTDesign also satisfied the timeline required to ensure the client could meet the operational needs of the newspaper.
The finished structure fully met the design, functional, and financial requirements of the client.
