BRIEF In 1994 the Port of Napier called for competitive Design/Build tenders for the construction of a new storage shed at the western end of the port reclamation. The design prepared by LHTDesign was priced by two construction companies whose Design/Build tenders came out well ahead of any other design. Amtech Construction, Napier won the tender to construct the building. Steel lattice trusses and large span steel purlins were chosen as main structural elements, purely for reasons of economy. All steel was coated with high quality epoxy paint systems or extra heavy galvanised coating to resist corrosion from the salt laden environment.
