Pan Pacific Forest Products Various Projects
Whirinaki, Napier

BRIEF
To provide structural and fire safety design for various projects associated with an upgrade of processing facilities in preparation for the addition of a new chip mill.  These projects include a new tray sorter, new cooling shed, new storage shed, new gantry and new foundations for a new tray line and a new saw.

FORESTRY PROJECT OUTLINE

  • New tray sorter – 100m x 20m wide building to accommodate large machine sorting graded timber into varying trays.
  • New cooling shed – small timber round pole building to extend capacity of existing facility previously designed by LHTDesign.
  • New gantry – design of a new gantry within an existing building that itself had been altered at various stages of its operation, requiring extensive research into previous designs as part of the design process.
  • New foundations for tray line and new saw – 3m x 3m x 3m elevated concrete foundation.  Construction required the use of timber bridges to aid in the erection.

LHTDESIGN’S SCOPE OF WORK
LHTDesign provided structural and fire safety designs, associated documentation, and construction observation, working closely with Pan Pac in their role as project manager.

At the same time as working on these projects, LHTDesign was simultaneously developing the structural and fire engineering design for the $15M chip mill.

OUTCOME
LHTDesign successfully met the tight deadlines to achieve completion of these projects.
