GREY DISTRICT AQUATIC CENTRE
Grey District Council
Aspirating smoke detection system included in new aquatic centre to provide early detection of smoke in building and in concealed roof space plenum. Specific analysis for escape times carried out to DRU approval.

 

LINDISFARNE COLLEGE AUDITORIUM
Lindisfarne College, Hastings 
Firecell creation and smoke detection included in new complex involving three separate large occupancy spaces, enabling sprinklers to be omitted, with huge cost saving.

 

OIL STORAGE WAREHOUSE
Oil Storage Warehouse, Hastings
New 2000sq m warehouse for storage of 600,000 litres of oil products. Bunding and water sprinkler system enabled full utilisation of site area. Close liaison with ERMA test certifier, Verifire and Fire Service enabled an effective solution to be found.

 

MIDDLETON GRANGE SCHOOL HALL
Middleton Grange School Hall, Christchurch 
Ahead Buildings new school hall and theatre, constructed close to property boundaries. Specific design showed that external fire spread via radiation did not require the inclusion of a sprinkler system.

 

SCOTT STORE, ENZAFOODS NZ LTD
Scott Store,  ENZAFOODS NZ Ltd,  Hastings 
Apple coolstore converted to cardboard packaging dry goods store – change of use. Building sprinklered but polyurethane foam insulation from original 1986 construction present. Application successful based on upgrading of flame barrier to polyurethane foam material.

 

GISBORNE HERALD BUILDING
Gisborne Herald Building, Gisborne 
Existing series of historic inter-connected buildings undergoing renovations. A paper roll storage area and printing press contributed to a high fuel load. Automatic smoke detection was included but no sprinklers. Improvements made to upper storey escape routes to provide full compliance with building code, at low cost.

 

WINEWORKS 4 WAREHOUSE
Wineworks 4 Warehouse, Hastings
Geoff Kell Consulting Ltd. 11.2 metre height 4500sq m warehouse to be used for the storage of cartoned wine. Sprinkler system not included – smoke reservoir utilised instead. Hydrant system included to enable fire service to carry out its operations. DRU memorandum was favourable.

 

GRIEVE BUILDING
Grieve Building, Hastings
Mackersey Construction Ltd. Dry goods store undergoing a change of use to fire hazard category 4. A sprinkler system allowed upper level offices to be included. Argument presented and accepted for a reduction in S rating.

 

GESTRO STORE, HASTINGS
Gestro Store, Hastings
Balanced Investments Ltd. Change of use of unsprinklered apple coolstore to dry goods store. Specific design measures required to address fire spread to adjacent property.
