To create an aesthetically-pleasing, practical community centre built on the grounds of the Tamahere Area School, designed to blend in with existing school buildings. The centre, partly funded by the Waikato District Council, needed to meet the school’s immediate and future needs whilst also being an invaluable asset serving the local community.
- 755sq m project footprint, of which 575sq m is an auditorium.
- Facilities in the auditorium include a sprung floor, full stage, green rooms, storage areas and some bleacher seating.
- The adjoining amenities include a spacious soaring entry foyer, amenities, kitchen and meeting room.
- A partial first floor which includes a meeting room, kitchenette and outdoor deck.
LHTDesign worked closely with the main contractor Ahead Buildings, to provide structural, insulation, architectural and fire safety documentation for Building Consent purposes.
Throughout the building project, LHTDesign utilised economic design and documentation methods, maximised the use of timber including laminated timber frames, Triboard wall panels.
Practical and effective detailing as required by Ahead Buildings was provided to suit its construction methods and to obtain the best value for money for the owner.
The new complex has been positively received with good reviews from the Board of Trustees, the school and the community.
The project was finished within time and cost expectations as a result of the consistent effort put in by the project team (Ahead Buildings and LHTDesign).
