To provide structural and fire safety design for extensive strengthening and extension of the iconic wooden chapel, an integral aspect of the private Christian boys’ secondary school.
- 100sq m extension to the 36-year-old wooden chapel.
- Strengthening of the wooden structure, including the steeple. Steel members were imbedded within the timber structure to maintain the integrity of the original building.
LHTDesign worked closely with BSM Group Architects to provide structural and fire safety design documentation for Building Consent purposes.
Onsite visits were made to supervise construction that involved unforseen issues arising from the challenges of extending an aged wooden building while not compromising its integrity.
The extended, strengthened chapel more comfortably accommodates the school’s community and remains an important and aesthetic ‘heart’ of the school life.
Unexpected problems were dealt with efficiently and effectively without compromising time or cost expectations.
