To provide structural design for extensive alterations to the Technology Block and Administration Block. A subsequent assignment involved providing structural design services for a new Student Centre built to house the school’s special programmes and international departments, the guidance counsellor, careers advisor, and the doctor and nurse.
- Alterations to existing Technology Block to create a new up-to-date facility.
- Complete re-vamp of the Administration Block to provide a more functional and appealing space.
- A 450sq m student centre adjacent to the rest of the school buildings, standalone but complementary in style.
LHTDesign worked closely with the principal consultant, BSM Group Architects and the client, Hastings Girls' High School to develop a functional, aesthetic and cost effective buildings.
LHTDesign provided structural and fire safety design (for the Administration Block), and documentation for Building Consent purposes for all projects.
With regard to the Student Centre, LHTDesign provided structural design services including site investigation, roof framing systems, feature entrance canopy, material specification, and limited construction monitoring services. We also worked closely with Simkin Construction to facilitate construction.
Both the Technology Block and Administration Block have been received well by staff and students.
The completion of the Student Centre was applauded by the school community and marks, with their delight, the end of ‘pre-fab’ buildings at the school.
All projects were finished within time and cost expectations as a result of the consistent effort put in by the project team (BSM Group Architects, LHTDesign Ltd and the contractors).
