BRIEF
To provide structural and fire safety design for an upmarket café and bar being built into a section of a former hardware store in the middle of a high traffic main shopping street.

PROJECT OUTLINE

• 125sq m narrow shaped, running from rear public carpark to main street, with walkway along full side.
• 54sq m mezzanine with office and bathroom facilities.
• Structural beams exposed as an architectural feature.
• Cantilevered rear roof and canopies.
• Large glass frontages resulting in design of complex bracing elements.
• 3.5 tonne steel plates on rear roof cantilevering in two directions, required full fabrication off site and installation by crane.

LHTDESIGN’S SCOPE OF WORKS
LHTDesign worked closely with Hunt Davis Tennant, Wellington architects to provide structural and fire safety design documentation for Building Consent purposes. 

OUTCOME
Soda Cafe and Bar has quickly become ‘the’ place day or night to catch up with friends for coffee, lunch or after work drinks.
