To carry out fast-tracked structural design, fire safety design and construction supervision of the Acute Assessment Unit at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Hospital $8M multi store alteration (as part of a multi-disciplinary consultancy team).
- 1300sq m first floor additions and 100sq m second floor addition to an existing building.
- Seismic strengthening included new cross bracing, additional foundations to resist new lateral loads and upgrade existing building to current codes of practice.
- Extensive soil testing to enable specific design and reduction in construction costs.
- Fibre reinforced strengthening of existing portal frames for heavy library floor loads.
- Alteration of emergency department.
- Suspended concrete plant room floor.
- Two precast stair units and an internal lift.
LHTDesign worked closely with Judd Fenwick Team Architecture (Architects and Principal Consultants) and contractor (Herbert Construction Ltd) to help achieve the extremely tight time and cost expectations of the District Health Board.
LHTDesign’s role included structural design and provision of documentation to a specific sequence required by Herbert Construction Ltd to effectively achieve staged construction.
LHTDesign also conducted foundation investigation, testing and construction supervision to further control cost.
The fast-track $8M AAU project took 10 months from commission to completion.
