Did you spot the difference?? There’s a number actually.
The most obvious is that we have added Design to our name. For some time we have been conscious that ‘LHT’ on its own doesn’t really communicate what it is we do – and have been doing since our inception: designing functional, cost-effective buildings.
Coupled with this, we have increased our range of services even further by adding mechanical engineering skills to our team.
John Loughnan
is no stranger to many of our clients, particularly those involved in aquatic and sporting facilities, as he has worked with LHTDesign director Tony Loughnan for many years under his own banner, John Loughnan Mechanical Engineer Ltd. Our specialist fields have become increasingly entwined over recent years and we now feel it makes very good sense to offer our skills under a single banner.
Jonathan Halliday
is a chartered professional mechanical engineer with six years’ experience in providing mechanical engineering solutions for building services projects.
Both specialise in heating, ventilation and air conditioning of buildings with John having a reputation as New Zealand’s leading designer of Hvac systems for aquatic buildings.

John and Jonathan will be working from our newly established Christchurch office (that’s a third difference). While distance has never been an issue for the LHTDesign team (almost half of our commissions are outside of our home base in Hawke’s Bay), it does mean we now have a permanent South Island base to work out of as and when we need to.
The combined firm will trade under the name of LHTDesign with Tony Loughnan and Alan Thompson, Directors of LHT Ltd, continuing as sole Directors of the company.
So, new name, new people, new skills and services, and new South Island base. All to provide our clients with even better engineering solutions.
Kind regards
Alan Thompson
